Rugs That Feel Like Artwork For Your Home
RUGS THAT FEEL LIKE ARTWORK FOR YOUR HOME
No matter the space, rugs lay the groundwork for the design. Many elements come into play, aesthetically and practically, when selecting the appropriate one. Because of its scale and location, the rug has the power to draw the eye down and simultaneously connects the room’s other spacial elements together. Looking beyond appearance, the rug serves an equal purpose of upholding everyday wear and tear. You know you’ve found a keeper when aesthetics and durability are represented.
When decorating a new space, I often select the rug first. Because they have the ability to stretch throughout an entire space, they have the power to create a statement. Rugs are a great spot to sprinkle in some personality.

Consider Location
Whether you are selecting a rug for a mudroom or a bedroom, location should be the main consideration because this will dictate the rug’s material. For example, in high-traffic areas, durability is key and may outweigh other elements of the rug such as aesthetics.
In a mudroom, low-pile and easy clean-ability will serve you well. Jute, sisal, and cotton are great for this area. Check out some examples below.
Plusher fabrics can be used in lower-traffic areas such as the bedroom. The rugs below are Moroccan. Well-known for their soft textured wool and vibrant array of colors, these are 100% wool that will last longer and age beautifully.
Measure It Out
In addition to location, measurements are another main consideration. With two tape measures, lay them on the floor to see how big the rug should lay. Knowing the size of the rug will narrow down the search process later on.
Think About Color
Selecting a lighter color will show darker colors more easily. Selecting a darker color will show lighter colors more easily. A medium-colored or patterned rug are options that will withstand the everyday and provide effortless beauty.
Order a Yarn Sample
If possible, order a yarn sample to see and feel the texture of the rug. As a designer, having a tangible example of the material can make or break decisions. Feeling the texture of the material will especially be helpful because it will be frequently walked upon.
When in Doubt, Choose Moroccan
Like many of the rugs shown, these vintage, worn-down pieces only get better over time. Because of their age, durability is at its finest. They leave less worry and frequency when it comes to cleaning because of their roughed-in look. Because they are handmade, the lesser amount gives them a unique twist and an authentic touch. These are a great pieces to add some spice to the space.
