Deck Decorating Ideas: Color Palette

It’s finally warming up here in Fishers. Summer is just around the corner and I’ve started to decorate my patio. Although nowhere near finished, I’ve found it helpful to pull some deck decorating ideas for inspiration.

John and I lived in another apartment with an outdoor space, but this is my first time decorating one. Now that we have a bigger budget, I’m excited to elevate it.

Explore how to discover and develop your color palette through the inspiration of these deck decorating ideas in 2022.

Carry the Indoors Out

What colors are used in your interiors? Carry those colors outside. It will make for a seamless transition between the two spaces. They should be colors you already like, right? If anything, a neutral palette will work too.

In our current space, I use a warmer color palette. Naturally, I’ve brought those colors to our outdoor space. I especially love our hot pink table and chairs. A statement piece, no less.

Determine the Vibe

What are the priorities for your outdoor space? A small reading nook to curl up with your favorite book? A quaint spot for two for those romantic dinners? A table setting for multiple guests to host your next gathering?

Whatever the occasion, consider a color palette that will complement the vibe.

For a cozy, reading nook, a neutral palette could be a good option for a more serene feel. A blush palette could set the scene for those romantic evenings you’ve been wanting to spend with your boo. Consider a multi-colored palette to match the vibe for the fun nights with guests.

On our outdoor balcony, we have limited space. Our priority is situation number two, a quaint spot for two. I picked a bright color for our table and chairs because I knew I wouldn’t be adding much else. I also love a pink and thought it was appropriate for the many romantic dinners we would be having out here. It doesn’t hurt that John doesn’t mind it too, right?

Melt Into the Existing Landscape

Another great way to find your color palette is by looking at your existing landscaping. What colors surround your outdoor space? Nature can be a great source of inspiration for design. It’s also great for your mental health too.

Although with changing seasons comes changing colors, consider a muted, earthy color palette. One made of browns, beiges, dark greens and purples.
