I love an outdoor living space, especially when it comes to deck decorating. Whether it’s a beautiful, sunny day without a cloud in the sky or a clear evening for star gazing, it’s a spot that can be enjoyed day or night, alone or together (with warm weather, of course :)). Whatever the occasion, it wouldn’t be complete without the selection of furniture. Imagine the comfort of your sofa, but with a settle hint of sunlight warming your skin. A few simple pieces can make for a seamless transition inside to out. There’s even proof behind the positive correlation between spending time in nature and our health.

Solidify Color Palette

In my last post, I touched on how to find the best color palette for your outdoor space. Choosing your color palette prior to selecting furniture will help for a smoother design process.

I love a warmer palette. Just like my interiors, I used similar colors to make for an easy transition between indoors and out. Combining a bold color with neutrals brings balance, while still showcasing personality.

Review Purpose & Priorities

When selecting furniture, consider the why. Why am I buying this furniture? What purpose does it serve?

Then consider the space’s priorities. Will this be your specified entertaining space? Will this be a spot for family dinners? Will it be a place to curl up with a book? Maybe all of the above?

Consider Location

Once your purpose & priorities are set, determine how the space will lay out. Existing landscaping is a great place to start. In the design below, Fytogreen uses a green wall as a backdrop for an outdoor dining table. Talk about a place to entertain *chef’s kiss*.
